With performances hailed as “heartbreaking” ( Boston Phoenix ) and “exquisitely sung” ( Dominion Post, NZ ), soprano Lydia Brotherton is increasingly in demand as a soloist and chamber musician for her stylish singing in repertoire ranging from the Medieval to the Baroque. Ms. Brotherton graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with an A.B. in Music and received her M.Mus. in Historical Performance from Boston University.

Solo engagements include Bach’s St. John Passion with the Harvard Baroque Orchestra, Schütz’s St. Luke Passion with Emmanuel Music, BWV 29 with Harry Christophers and the Handel & Haydn Society, a national tour and radio broadcast of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 with Apollo’s Fire, the title role in Eccles’ opera Semele with Martin Pearlman and the BU Baroque Orchestra, Monteverdi’s Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda with guest artists from Boston Baroque, and performances at The Cloisters in New York City, Schnütgen Museum in Köln, and Cité de la Musique in Paris.

She has also appeared with Tragicomedia, the Boston Early Music Festival in its Chamber Opera Series, Boston Camerata, Blue Heron Choir, and in concert with Laurence Cummings and soloists from the Handel & Haydn Society. She has recorded for West Deutsche Rundfunk, Raumklang, BH, and CPO labels.
