Gerry Flanagan has degrees in astronautical engineering and worked for the US Air Force and Grumman Aerospace. He later became Technical Director and a partner with Material Sciences Corporation, a recognized leader in the design and analysis of composite structures. He developed a national reputation for applying advanced mathematical and computational techniques to engineering problems. Gerry retired to Maine where he is able to pursue his many hobbies and love of music. He plays trumpet in local ensembles, and made learning to play lute a retirement goal. He now occasionally performs recitals on baroque lute and theorbo. Besides music, he enjoys astronomy, and is a competitive long distance runner.
