…to see Camerata in the movies :-) And to have the film win one of the three major festival awards. We had a great time at our annual after party, where we announced the 2014 winners! Thanks to Tasty Burger Harvard Square for sponsoring the event.

Last night, August 9, at the Massachusetts International Film Festival, “A Chair for an Angel” was named Best Documentary Film at the Harvard Square ceremony. Joel Cohen was there to accept the award on behalf of director Raymond Saint Jean, the production crew and the performing artists, and to bring home, as compensation, a few ounces of bubbly. Congratulations to all!

Mary Ann, a fine musician and a lovely person, participated in two Boston Camerata recordings, “Simple Gifts” and “Angels.” We are saddened by her passing.

We learned today that “A Chair Fit for an Angel,” featuring musical performances by the Boston Camerata, has been nominated for Best Documentary and Best Cinematography at the 2014 Massachusetts Independent Film Festival. The film has already won two of these distinctions from a Canadian festival.

And a reminder: the Massachusetts première takes place Friday, August 8, at noon, at the famous Brattle Theater, Cambridge.

From this morning’s Boston Globe:

The Boston Camerata gets off to an early start on Aug. 10 with “Verdant Grove,” a gathering of early-American song. The centerpiece in fall is “The Play of Daniel,” an exploration of the biblical hero in music from the Middle Ages (Nov. 21 and 23). This year’s holiday offering is “An American Christmas,” one of its most popular programs (Dec. 18-20). The group has a residency at MIT, with a March 6 concert, and reprises its interfaith program, “A Sacred Bridge,” on March 29.
